In Less Than 30 Minutes I Discovered...

In under 30 minutes on Twitter I discovered: 1. A quote shared by George Couros by Rabindranath Tagore, "Don't limit a child to your own learning for he was born in a different time". ( Check it out here ) This quote is so eye-opening. It would be easier to teach only the subjects that we are comfortable with and have mastered because we have practiced them since our own grade school days. But, those lessons would only create clones of generations before. What are we teaching our children that encourages them to try different avenues of learning and discovery? I loved this quote because it made me feel like I was going to be a part of something big and as a teacher I know that I am! I am investing in the world of tomorrow. 2. An article written and shared by Katie Martin, "Are We Educating for Life or for School?" ( Check out Katie's blog here !) From RSS Feeds I Discovered...

RSS feeds are a great resource to improve the atmosphere and vibe of your classroom. RSS feeds bring together heaps of knowledge or you that will enhance the learning of your students if applied. I was connected with and enjoyed Terry Heicks' article titled 50 Ways to Teach Understanding (you can read more! Click on the link below). This article gave me different ideas including incorporating material into games and testing that way. This is fun for students but also gives the teacher a peek into student learning. Another article that I became interested in was Secrets for Creating an Amazing Classroom Makerspace. This article piqued my interest immediately. I love hands-on learning and I know that students learn better when they are ...

Connecting Professionally (Defining PLN)

PLN is short for a connected group of professional learners of any field. PLN groups collaborate on a specific area of learning - in my case it would be Elementary Education. Or, further down the road I might want to dive into everything about reading with lower elementary students, I could connect with others that have the same passion thus creating a network! PLN groups share the same passions, they exchange the very best tips and tricks that they have seen work as well as inspire others in the group to try new things. As an aspiring teacher and future member of various PLN's, I hope to gain wisdom from teachers that have gone before me in my specific field. I hope to harvest information about the following things. I want to learn how to address and incorporate real life practices such as recycling, communication skills, motor skills and independent discovery into my classroom. I also want to learn how to incorporate as much hands-on learning into my classroom as ...
